  5. Bitter Apple Spray. Its bitter taste keeps your guinea pig from licking her wounds

  6. Cotton balls and swabs for applying just about everything

  7. Ear wipes for wax and ear discharges

  8. Eye wipes to clean eye discharge

  9. First aid lotion

  10. Flea & tick shampoo for flea control

  11. Grease-cutting dishwashing detergent (mild) for cleaning wounds

  12. Hydrogen peroxide solution (3%)

This is the most versatile item in your pet first aid kit. If you have only one thing available for pet emergencies make it hydrogen peroxide. It can be used to clean wounds and ears, and to induce vomiting. Check with your veterinarian for specifics on these procedures.

Additional Items to Consider or Keep Nearby
  1. Towels (for restraint)

  2. Rectal thermometer

  3. Vaseline

  4. Penlight

  5. Pet carrier

  6. Storage

Your guinea pig’s first aid kit should be kept in a cool, dry place where you have easy access to it, such as an interior closet. Many people keep medications and first aid supplies (even for humans) in bathrooms, but because of moisture from baths and showers this is not an ideal location.
